— ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Schools supplies sought for needy kids The Samaritan Community Center in Rogers and Siloam Springs station KLRC-FM, 101. 1, are collecting school supplies for needy children at Marketplace Grill restaurants throughout Northwest Arkansas through Friday. Supplies will be used to fill more than 1, 500 backpacks. Supplies needed include pencils, pens, highlighters, binders, scissors, erasers, rulers, crayons, pocket-sized packs of tissues, glue, spiral notebooks and loose-leaf paper. — ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Civil War living history set for Saturday “The Civil War in Shiloh,” a day of living history, will be held from 10 a. m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the Shiloh Museum in Springdale. Doug Kidd will portray a Civil War surgeon and recruit audience members to help roll bandages and prepare to treat wounded soldiers at 10 a. m., noon and 2 p.m. Rangers from Pea Ridge National Military Park will ask visitors to participate in cannon and musket drills at 11 a. m., 1 and 3 p.m. The day will also feature bobbin lace-making demonstrations and log cabin cooking with the Sons of Confederate Veterans. — ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Emergency drill today in 6 counties The Northwest Region Hospital Preparedness Group will take part in a full-scale six-county simulation of a major disaster — the aftermath of massive destruction by tornadoes — from 2-8 p.m. today. The exercise will be used to evaluate overall preparedness and identify needed improvements. The drill will feature live volunteer victims.
