Rezoning approved for McCollum property

BENTONVILLE - A rezoning request for property on Northeast McCollum Road near Arkansas Highway 72 has met the approval of planning commissioners.

The commission approved a rezoning of the property, at 800 and 802 N. E. McCollum Road, from medium-density residential to residential office.

The rezoning was requested by MOR-WISE Investments LLC, represented by Paul Esterer, at the commission's meeting Tuesday night.

Current Planning Manager Brian Bahr explained that the new designation only allows for light retail - such as a dry-cleaner, a small bookstore or a salon.

The rezoning request suggests that office space and restricted retail can provide a buffer between the residential to the west and the highway right of way to the east.

The commission also approved the following items • A conditional-use permit to construct an indoor diving center at 334 Greenhouse Road on the southwest side of town, requested by Richard Whitehead; and • A conditional-use permit for a childcare facility at 4400 S. W. Lilly Lane, in an area currently zoned single-family residential, requested by Janett Self.
