Bella Vista

Victoria Margaret Bernath DesJardins, 92, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. She was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Wyoming, Pa., to Cyprin Judicky and Marion Galenis Judicky. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Bernath and Rose Bernath of Bella Vista; and three granddaughters, Ronda Ingle of Bella Vista, Ramona Johnson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Renee Tracy of Ooltewah, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren. A private service will be held at a later date at St. Theodore’s Episcopal Church in Bella Vista. Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory. John B. Sooter, 85, of Bentonville, Ark., died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark. Arrangements are pending with Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers, Ark.

Garfield

James “Little Jim” Smith, 55, of Garfield, Ark., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1953, in Rogers, Ark., to Walter Smith and Barbara Wood Smith. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed nature and caring for his dog, Scooter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Barbara Smith. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Harold Smith and Peggy Smith of Garfield; and a sister and brotherin-law, Brenda Tilford and Doc Tilford of Purdy, Mo. Graveside services will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Avoca, Ark. Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers, Ark. Pinehurst, Texas

Sharon Sue Abrisz Rogerson, 68, of Pinehurst, Texas, formerly of Rogers, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at her home, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 11, 1940, in High Point, Iowa, to Edwin C. “ Bud” Seitz and Neva Petty Seitz.

She was a 1958 graduate of Garden Grove (Iowa ) High School and a 1987 graduate of the University of Arkansas. She had lived in Garden Grove; Des Moines, Iowa; Rogers, Ark.; and Pinehurst. She was active in the Rogers Little Theater as a board member / officer, a production director and a performer. She was a Girl Scout leader, a youth softball coach and a member of the Red Hat Texas Jewels of Tomball, Texas. She was honored with the Pride of Rogers Award from the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. She retired as a purchasing manager with Newlyweds Foods in Springdale, Ark. During her retirement, she continued to be an avid reader, seamstress, knitter and gardener and to enjoy attending plays and concerts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Abrisz, on March 3, 1998; and her mother, Neva Seitz, on May 24, 2001.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Rogerson, whom she married on March 30, 2000; her father, Edwin C. “ Bud” Seitz; two sons and daughtersin-law, Edwin McClure and Kathy McClure of Rogers, Ark., and Garry McClure and Betty McClure of Clear Lake, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Neva “ Kriket ” Mohesky and Michael Mohesky of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two stepsons, Mark Rogerson and Scott Rogerson; a stepdaughter, Amy Rogerson; two sisters and brothers-inlaw, Lou Roe and Gerald Roe of Humeston, Iowa, and Suzanne Woodyard and Steve Woodyard of Altoona, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Seitz and Marlene Seitz of Shelby, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Zachary Denison of New York, N. Y., Elizabeth McClure, Allison Mc-Clure and Jacob McClure, all of Clear Lake, Alyssa Eckert of Conway, Ark., and Kendall Eckert and Grant Mohesky, both of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a stepgranddaughter, Anna Mohesky of Springdale, Ark.; two greatgrandchildren, Angila Sandage and Makayla Sandage, both of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews. Rogers

Carl T. Dooley, 87, of Rogers, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at his home. He was born June 1, 1921, in Cushing, Okla., to Henry J. Dooley and Susie Jane Reynolds Dooley. He had lived in the Rogers area for 29 years, moving from Oklahoma. He worked as a dairyman. He was a member of the Prairie Creek Garden Club. He enjoyed gardening fishing doing crafts and needlework, and attending craft shows. He was preceded in death by his first wife; a son, Lonnie Dooley; and two grandsons, Hank and Johnny. Survivors include his wife, Rosie Dooley; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom Dooley and Linda Dooley of Cushing, Okla.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Tate of Mannford, Okla., and Rosalea Davis and Dewey Davis of Holiday Island, Ark.; two stepsons, Gary Lane and his wife Debbie Lane of Walton, Okla., and Kenneth Lane and his wife Gyda Lane of Claremore, Okla.; a sister, Betty Hoggatt of Cushing; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Susie Laverne Owen Susie Laverne Owen, 79, of Rogers, Ark., died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. She was born July 18, 1929, in Peaceful Valley, Ark., to Henry Whittle and Nina Whittle. She retired from Campbell Soup Co. She enjoyed going to garage sales. She was preceded in death by a brother, Milo Whittle; and a sister, Evelyn Todd. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Owen and Linda Owen of Rogers; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Gray and Jimmy Gray of Fayetteville, Ark; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy Whittle and Evone Whittle of Hindsville, Ark., and Tommy Whittle and Helen Whittle of Huntsville, Ark.; three sisters, Verna Graham, Daisy Couch and Betty Woodring, all of Springdale, Ark.; three grandchildren, Joy Feesler, Lory Turner and Jeremy Owen; and three great-grandchildren, Evan, Abby and Kyra. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.

Watts, Okla.

Marvin Dean Leroy, 58, of Watts, Okla., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at his home. Cremation arrangements are by Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark.

Rogers

Mary Elizabeth West made the roll call up yonder at 1: 20 p. m. on November 16, 2008. She had been a resident of Rogers most of her life. Born October 22, 1915, in Everton, Arkansas, she was the epitome of a “ Proverbs 31 ” woman: virtuous, loving, caring, industrious were the hallmarks of this great Saint.

Mary worked for Southwestern Bell for 27 years, as well as sharing in the work of raising poultry. Working with the youth and children in church was her passion. She was an accomplished and published poet both in the state and national poetry societies. She was a member of New Hope Church of the Nazarene.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; three brothers; and a son, Nelson Dewey West.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, J. D. West of the home; her daughter, Priscilla Lynn Rudd and husband Dr. Charles W. Rudd of Kingwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Charles W. Rudd Jr. of Houston, Texas, Stephnei Berry and husband David of Bentonville, Melissa Masterson and husband Bobby of Kingwood, Texas, Jamei Hopper and husband Clint of Rogers; seven greatgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of people whose lives she influenced.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p. m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in downtown Rogers. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p. m. Wednesday at Rogers First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Benton County Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Charles William Rudd Jr., David Berry, Clint Hopper, Bobby Masterson, Kristopher Harper and Jerry White.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be made to the New Hope Church of the Nazarene or to Rogers First Church of the Nazarene.
