As of their Oct. 21 meeting, members had made a total of 6, 880 quilts.

There was discussion about having a one-day tent sale with items donated by Rubbermaid, including mops, paint rollers, nuts, bolts, Christmas tree storage containers and more.

The group will have a “ Granny’s Appreciation Luncheon ” Dec. 16 in Bella Vista. Members from Bella Vista will provide meat and beverages. Other attendees are asked to bring a salad or dessert.

Pearl K. Ford will speak at the Benton County Democratic Women’s Club meeting at 11: 30 a. m. Nov. 24 at the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center in Bentonville.

Ford is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Arkansas. She is also affiliated with the African-American Studies Program. Her research interests include African-American political behavior, the intersection of race and class, and electoral behavior.

The Robert M. Sterrett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Bella Vista will have its annual Christmas party Dec. 6 at 5: 30 p. m. The post is located at 103 Veterans Way.

The menu will include turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, salads, rolls, desserts, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Cost per person is $ 14.

Karen Swenson, a member of Quilters United in Learning Together, will speak Dec. 4 at the combined November and December guild meetings. The evening will begin with a social time at 6: 30 p. m., and Swenson’s program will start at 7 p. m.

The meeting will be at the Springdale Holiday Inn, 1500 S. 48 th St.

Swenson is making her debut on the lecture circuit with a trunk show and lecture called “ Diversity is the Spice of Life. ”

Next year’s officers will be installed, Challenge Quilts will be voted on, Round Robin quilts will be displayed, and a member will be honored with this year’s Certificate of Appreciation Award.

The club’s Christmas party will be Dec. 5 at the Bella Vista Country Club. A social hour will begin at 5 p. m., followed by a sit-down dinner at 6 p. m.

President Marv Mickelson presided at the club’s Nov. 6 meeting at Acropolis Restaurant in Bentonville.

Linda Woollett from Concordia in Bella Vista said there are assisted- and independent-living quarters available for people age 60 and older.

Joe Kern reported that vision screenings will be conducted later in November or in early December at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Bentonville.

The club’s Christmas party will be held from 2: 30 p. m. to 4: 30 p. m. Dec. 12 in the Village Insurance Community Room.

The group will hike the southern end of the Hidden Diversity Trail (South Little Clifty trail ) in Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area on Nov. 22. The hike will cover approximately four miles of fairly level ground.

The group will meet in the upper parking lot above Harps in Bella Vista’s Town Center at 9 a. m. Bring water, a snack and lunch.

Members of the Bella Vista Welcome Club meet the fourth Wednesday of each month to play Bunco. The next scheduled meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, starting at 11 a. m. at Metfield Clubhouse.

The Bentonville-Bella Vista club recently marked two events on the calendar of ongoing activities that benefit the community. As participants in the statesponsored Adopt-a-Highway program, a dozen Lions gathered Nov. 8 at the U. S. Highway 71 rest stop, then set out to remove trash and litter from their assigned section of the highway. The effort was a success in that each Lion was able to remove at least one bag of rubbish from the road.

In addition, the club helped commemorate Veterans Day on Nov. 11 by placing U. S. flags at more than 90 businesses and churches in the Bella Vista area. The club’s flag project honors patriotic holidays throughout the year.

While supplies last, the club will continue the sale of a wide variety of nuts and candy at Arvest Bank locations in Bella Vista and the Arvest Financial Center in Bentonville.
