Emmy winner has ties to Bella Vista

HOUSTON Richard G. King, an award-winning writer and producer, was recognized with an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
King attended the 47 th Annual Public Service Emmy Award ceremony in New York City, in the famed Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center, where he received an Emmy for writing, producing and directing the public service campaign, Now Is Our Time To Serve. The campaign was created with partner sponsors National Military Family Association and U. S. Family Health Plan in order to celebrate 2007 as Year of The Military Family.

These spots are designed to tug on heartstrings to change the focus from the politics of war to what we can do to help American families who contribute to our nations safety every day, said King. Our aim was to move citizens to action. To get neighbors helping neighbors, to lend a hand to military families however they can. The commercials were named Support, Befriend and Appreciate and thats exactly what every one of us can do. It was a labor of love and an honor to be a part of this project.
In addition to the TV spots, the campaign featured national print, radio and in-cinema public service announcements that were viewed on more than 2, 500 movie theater screens across the nation.
King is the son of Babs Thomas and stepson of Herb Thomas of Bella Vista.
