Contest challenges kids to design T-shirts with purpose

ROGERS — Children in kindergarten through the eighth grade are invited to submit original designs that could be used on the front of all T-shirts to be distributed to participants in the 11th annual Kendrick Fincher Youth Run on May 2 in Rogers. Judging will be based on how the design creatively incorporates the Kendrick Fincher Foundation's mission to prevent heat illness — for example, themes related to proper hydration, exercising and keeping cool. Previous winning entries may be viewed on the Web site www.kendrickfincher.org. All entries become the property of the Kendrick Fincher Foundation and will not be returned. Finalists will be determined by the youth-run committee's members. The winner will be chosen through community voting. The winning design will be printed on 800 T-shirts, and the creator will receive $100 in cash. In addition, the winning child's school physical-education program will receive a $50 Best Sports gift certificate. Date announced for annual Texas golf tournament

The 10th annual Bella Vista-South Texas Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Palm View Golf Course in McAllen, Texas. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. A social hour will be held the evening of Feb. 18, and a dinner will follow play on Feb. 19. Any Bella Vista property owner is welcome. Village Ace
Ted Kedrowski set the bar on Dec. 26 when he scored not only his first hole-in-one, but the first one in his family. Kedrowski, who was visiting Bella Vista, aced the 16th hole at the Highlands Golf Course. He used a 4-iron to make the 194-yard drive. The feat was witnessed by family members Tony, Ryan, Luke, Lee and Evan Kedrowski. - Wednesday, January 7, 2009
