DMS participates in drug awareness week

DECATUR ó Students at Decatur Middle School participated in Drug Awareness Week at the end of October.

Students started off the week making posters to let others know the dangers in using and abusing drugs. Students also welcomed Ashen Batson, who spoke about ways to say no to drugs. School counselor Maolina Yang talked with each group of participating students and showed them a video dealing with drug awareness.

Students expressed their intent to remain drug free by dressing in different fashion styles during the week. Students also were warned about the tactics used by drug dealers to get people to use their drugs.

Students who made posters were given spiral suckers as a prize for their work. The overall poster winner also was given $ 5 for her efforts.

The overall winner was Anna Pina. Runners up were David Franco, Melissa Garcia, Joni Fuentez, Areili Soto, Victor Urguidi, Rachel Harding, Brittany Frost, Courtney Lawrence, Michaela Moore, Trey Kell, Amanda Horner and Amanda McGuire.
