Extension Service Gives Wood Tips For Smokers

Dry limbs and twigs from pecan, apple, pear and black cherry trees can be cut into small lengths or chipped into blocks which can be soaked in water and used in smokers.

Wood from oak, maple and other hardwoods makes excellent firewood. Wood from pine trees isn’t suitable because of its resin content. Pine should not be used for smoking, the U of A Cooperative Extension Service advises.
