This week's Soldier Spotlight focuses on Arkansas Army National Guard Spc. Daniel Lemus. Lemus attended High School in Berryville, and now lives in Springdale with his wife and two children. Back home he is employed at Superior Industries in Fayetteville where he works in the mold shop doing mainly grinding and polishing. Daniel has only been in the National Guard for two years and this is his first deployment. He is one of many National Guard Soldiers who also have family members in the same unit. His best friend and roommate is his brother, Adalberto Lemus.
"I am lucky to have my brother here with me, we get along great and he is really clean," Lemus said.
His job in Bravo Company is as a driver. One of the challenges of being a driver is having to watch out for all the "crazy things"you can see on the road in Iraq. It is not uncommon for him to have to dodge camels, kids, or other vehicles in a normal day's work.
When asked what he likes and dislikes about driving he said "I enjoy the fact that everything is constantly changing, no two days are exactly alike. The hard part is having to stay awake on long missions in the middle of the night."
He is also in charge of ensuring that all the maintenance gets done on his vehicle, which can be a daunting, but very important, task. During his down time he calls home frequently, watches movies with his brother, or catches up on sleep.
Lemus said he misses Arkansas, where he enjoys swimming and spending quality time with his wife and kids. He said he especially misses his family. When he returns home he said he is interested in going to college, possibly majoring in radiology.
