National orchestra seeks outreach opportunities in Arkansas
Posted on Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Arkansas learned in July that it had been selected for the National Symphony Orchestra's American Residency program for 2009.
Interested organizations can apply now to request education and outreach activities they would like the orchestra to be involved in.
The orchestra picks one state every year for its American Residency program, which includes performances and outreach activities with various groups. Its visit to Arkansas will be March 24-30.
"Since its inception in 1992, a hallmark of the residency project has been its responsiveness to the artistic and educational wishes of each state," a statement released Monday said. "Therefore, the National Symphony Orchestra will take into consideration any request for a musical artistic exchange while in the state."
These requests can come from any civic group, organization, school, church or community that would like to host members of the orchestra in chamber performances, sectionals, fiddling classes, coaching, master classes, workshops for teachers or any other musical interest.
The deadline for filing an activity request is Sept. 19.
An activity request form may be downloaded at www. uca. edu / cfac / nso / nso. html.
