St. Paul stings Hornets

St. Paul senior high teams traveled to the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville to play the Southside Bee Branch Hornets on Nov. 7.

The girls played the first game of the evening. The Saint played very well, holding the Hornets to 3 points at the end of the first quarter, with the score at 10-3. St. Paul kept full control of the game and were up 32-9 at the half and 44-20 after the third quarter. Saints kept their lead and won the game 61-31.

Cheyenne Morgan scored 15 points to lead the Saints’ scoring drive. Not far behind her were Sara Ploudre, Jessica Walker, and Teri Cline who had 12 points each.

“ Balanced scoring from 4 players is what we have been looking for. Guard play was good and we had strong post play. We played well all the way around. ” said St. Paul Coach Jackie Kirbo.

The next game of the night was the senior high boys. The Saints jumped right in and were ahead 13-10 after the first quarter and 25-20 at the half. The Hornets got within 3 points away at the end of the third quarter with the score 41-38. Although the Hornets were out for a sting, the Saints won 55-46.

Trintin Holmes scored 18 points and had 5 assists to become St. Paul’s leading scorer. Nathan Rogers had 13 points, Jaydee Conner had 7 points, Adam Chase had 6 points, Hunter Stephenson had 5 points, and Dustin Shackelford had 4 points.
